Overview

Axis Clinical Software is the pioneer of electronic outcomes data management, and the steadfast industry frontrunner. The company is dedicated solely to the development of technology solutions for this select niche. It was founded by a renowned physician who wanted to track and analyze the long-term impact of then-revolutionary new procedures, but couldn’t find a suitable tool to support his needs. So he built one . . . and PATS® (Patient Analysis & Tracking System) was born. That was 1973, and the lives and livelihoods of his patients are still being followed.

Commercialized in 1980, and more than 30 years mature, PATS® is indeed a rare find among software applications. It is one of very few to have stood the test of time, lived through multiple generations of operating systems and programming languages, proven its stability, and demonstrated its capacity to embrace continuous improvement and advancement.

PATS® has become integral to the work performed by quality management, performance improvement, clinical effectiveness, decision support, database and research departments. Data registries may be designed quickly and easily around a specific medical specialty, subspecialty, service line, patient population, disease state, research study, payor organization, government program, or the like. There are no pre-requisites. PATS® provides tools for every facet of outcomes data management: design, capture, entry, validation, cleanup, monitoring, auditing, mining, analysis, reporting, graphing, presentation, benchmarking, predictive modeling and risk stratification.

PATS® is the only software application of its kind to offer a multidisciplinary platform scalable across an entire hospital enterprise, outpatient clinic or integrated delivery network. Since its inception, PATS® has been adopted by virtually every area of specialty, including cardiac care, vascular medicine, orthopedics, organ transplantation, oncology, OB/GYN, interventional radiology, urology, pulmonology and trauma medicine, among many others. It is capable of supporting any number of registries, sites, departments, workstations and users. A highly unique, adjunctive data aggregation module allows individual facilities to contribute data to a corporate host entity for centralized warehousing, analysis, benchmarking and reporting.

PATS® supports several state and national and database programs, including Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), American College of Cardiology (ACC), United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), California CABG Outcomes Reporting Project (CCORP) and Massachusetts Data Analysis Center (Mass-DAC), among others. Axis Clinical Software also offers a variety of stock registry templates to address areas of specialty, disease processes, procedures and patient populations. Each template represents the most universally applicable data elements consistent with current literature, practice, reporting standards and evidence-based medicine.

Axis Clinical Software helps PATS® users achieve their goals in whatever ways possible. The company employs a training team that provides multiple levels of ongoing instruction and education; a dedicated support team that responds to day-to-day inquiries and resolves any issues or problems that may arise; and an implementation team that helps coordinate the delivery of new and upgraded systems. The company also employs a technical projects team that tackles unique and customized requirements, such as data conversions and interface templates.
